Labels, nations, nation states, geographical borders and languages.
The easier you identify a group of people and give them a label, the easier it becomes to discriminate and eliminate them. Look at how Hitler dealt with Jews, gipsies, homosexuals and everyone else who did not fit with the pure Arian race. In the Netherlands where race was written in the people’s passports the Nazis had the easiest job of rounding and deporting the undesirable.
Let’s look what makes you belong to a label and idea of a nation. Some say the language. But with digital advancement and self-learning algorithms today, we have an apps and devices which instantly translate one spoken language into other. This trend will continuously improve and scale up, thus making language obsolete as a factor of identification. Then we have those who say historic heritage, tradition or knowledge. But did Mozart write his music for the Austrians only? Or did the laws of physic’s developed by Newton apply only in England? If we were to keep all our traditions unchanged, half of the population would still be locked in the kitchen and deemed unworthy of learning even to read and write, let along join the work force and have opinion and rights. So, what makes you a national of country is just an illusion written on a piece of paper which usually defines who owns you. And even then, when you have this paper, how many of your compatriots you actually know in person? And do you really care for the rest that you don’t know. I personally don’t know even my neighbors. Which is something very normal in our pre-corona lifestyle and behavior. So how important it is for you to identify with the label of nation? Enough so you go and die in a war against other group of people identifying themselves as another nation? And most importantly why? What would you be protecting if this was the case? The neighbors you don’t know, the asshole that cut you in traffic, the banker who enslaved you, the geographical borders, which are open for free travel? Most geographical borders are not disputed nowadays. It is a precondition to be be part of the struggling United Nations organization. And then if we are united what is the point of the label of nations or nation states? Are not the values that unite better than everything else? The human rights? The fair society? The right to live happy and fulfilling life without damaging other living beings or environment. Have clean water, clean air, enough good and healthy food? It is not as if we can not afford it. We throw more food in the garbage then we need to feed everyone.
In the sense of the above, National security must become Planetary security!
